birthdays and owls and magazines...

new owls coming soon :)
last week started with a birthday and ended with an Anniversary...such a lovely time was had as we spent our days celebrating our time together and the fact that I am now unable to remember exactly how old I really am (denial)

one of my presents....a vintage polaroid :)

here's me proudly stepping out in my custom Doc Martins and Tiara combo...my dress was made by a friend from my fashion college days...we had homemade gingerbread cookies with our initials on as favors and we had my friends dads Jazz band and mix tapes for the evening disco...we had a blast and consider ourselves very lucky indeed to be still happily celebrating 16 years on :)

other news... I have been at it again with the little squares and the pinning and the...oh OK there's no beating about the bush here I patchworked again...

just a simple squares one in some nice Autumnal patterns...

so this one has found itself on our squishy sofa ready for the next Wes Anderson movie marathon...

more makes...a new bag for my new camera...

it was pretty easy so if anyone is interested I might do a tutorial as I think they would make good Christmas presents....

I have been sat here a lot lately...working on some new things which I hope to share very soon...

and also a spot of thrifting for nice wintery fabrics to cosy up our home...

speaking of home I just have to add that this lovely issue of Mollie Makes Home 2

features our home as well as lots of really lovely interiors from all around the world...

it's a lovely magazine, more like a book really...you can see more here

have a lovely week

happy finds...early mornings...

thrifting in the school hols is a bit non existent ...this summer we were having a BIG clear out and the only visits we made to charity shops was to drop stuff off... so I re discovered the joys of a car boot...

the first few trips we were unlucky... me and my friend came back empty handed...but we stuck at it and kept going back.. one week all I found was maps and globes (fine by me)

another week I found stoneware cups...milk glass and a vintage sheet...(yay! and all blue)

last week I found a beautiful vintage typewriter, a working 35mm camera and a vintage polaroid to add to my little collection...(similar stuff again)

I didn't realize until I started photographing them all that each week there seemed to be a theme...

these aren't car boot finds but they are second hand treasures all bought in the same week and very yellow :)

I might have one last little trip this sunday...I wonder what I'll find...

little room makeover...

this is a cute little bed and belongs to our #2... one day I dismantled it and took it outside to paint... with a view to making it look not quite so cute so we could hang on to it for a bit longer... I immediately regretted this decision as it was quite faffy to paint and was a pain in the bum to re assemble back in his little room...

there was much cursing and more faffing but eventually it turned back into a bed :)

now it's all finished I've forgotten what a faff it all was and really love it...

with some new bedding and freshly made gingham curtains it's given the room a whole new look...

having a small bedroom can be challenging but it's very cozy and we still managed to get all his favourite things back in there...

suitcases have been the best addition for storing lego and stacks of vintage marvel comics under the bed...

I didn't see much of him after we did this as he spent a lot of time in there so I'm guessing it has the seal of approval :)

the end of summer....

so the school holidays are over and the house is quiet again and I'm looking back at our summer to pick out my favourite bits....

it was slow and easy and the weather was mostly kind to us so we spent our days together on little trips here and there...

a favourite day out is Llandudno... the skies were so blue and the little cable cars looked amazing bobbing along in the sunshine... we sat for ages just watching them going up and down...

we decided against the huge queue to jump on one and walked up to the ski slope instead...then after there's a stroll on the pier to the joke shop (this time it was itching powder and coal soap) oh how we laughed (kind of)

another day out was a trip to the beach at Lytham and St Annes for a go on the pedalos and a big walk on the sand...

and a day out at the brilliant Yorkshire Sculpture Park...(highly recommend this and will definitely go back)

and then there were days at home... enjoying the warm evenings and camping out in the garden...late bedtimes and sleepy mornings, breakfasts that turn into lunches and picnics with friends in the park...

and when I got a minute I turned this pile of lovely patterns

into a new quilt...this started with some scribbles in a note book and I had no idea if it would work but I went along with it...I like that its not one bit flowery and it's just the right size for snuggling under on movie nights.

and how lucky to find a thrifted sheet with little matching crosses for the back :)

so there you go...an uneventful but happy summer (I'm making the most of it before the teenage hormones kick in!! of course there were fractious times when it all gets a bit much but who wants to hear about that!) it's all back to school now and I'm ready for lots of sewing and making and bundling to fill my little shop again...
back soon x x x x x
