we used to make these a lot when the boys were small, mostly from found twigs and things like pine cones but I fancied making an updated version with neon feathers and string so I've done a little how to...it's an easy project that can be made by children, maybe with a little help with the tying bits.
you will need pic 1
a hoop (I used part of an embroidery hoop)
yarn in various colours
double sided tape or glue
take your hoop and apply some double sided tape where you want to add the yarn. start wrapping the yarn around the hoop, tie off to finish and tuck the end in pic 2/3... continue adding the different colours in sections all the way around the hoop, you can leave open spaces like i did if you wish to or fill the whole hoop with colour.
using the string begin to wrap around the hoop to fill in the centre pic 4 keep going until you are happy with the way it looks.
tie a loop at the top to hang it with pic 5
add the feathers by attaching them to the string and then tying the string to the base of the hoop pic 6/7
you can make the hoop from twigs if you can bend them into a circle, you could make tiny ones from things like curtain rings or bangles. if you don't have any feathers you could make some from coloured paper, or you could use pom poms
